Csaba Sándor – Baritone

Born in Csíkszereda, Csaba Sándor began his classical singing studies at the Nagy István Art High School in his hometown. He then continued his education at the State University of Oradea, majoring in opera singing under the guidance of Marian Boboia. As part of an exchange program, he also studied at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest under the mentorship of the renowned soprano Éva Marton. He completed his master’s at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca.

Since 2013, he has been a soloist at the Hungarian Opera of Cluj, performing numerous leading roles.

In 2015, he made his Hungarian State Opera debut in Don Giovanni, performing the role of Masetto alongside Erwin Schrott. Since then, he has played multiple roles at the Budapest Opera and has been featured in the world premieres of several contemporary Hungarian operas.

In 2017, he made a highly successful debut at the Romanian National Opera in Bucharest, performing the title role in Andrei Șerban’s production of Don Giovanni. That same year, he was honored with the Excellence Award at the Gala of Romanian National Operas.

In 2023, he debuted at the Bavarian State Opera in the premiere of Prokofiev’s War and Peace, a production that was later named Opera Production of the Year.

On Hungarian Opera Day in 2023, the Hungarian State Opera awarded him the Melis György Prize, recognizing his exceptionally clear and beautiful Hungarian diction.

In 2024, he made his first appearance at the Semperoper Dresden in La Traviata. His international engagements have taken him on tours with the Hungarian State Opera to South

Korea and Japan, as well as to the Hong Kong Arts Festival with the Bavarian State Opera.

His repertoire spans from classical opera to contemporary works, and he is also a frequent soloist in oratorio performances.

He has collaborated with prestigious institutions such as the Bavarian State Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Hungarian State Opera, Romanian National Opera in Bucharest, Romanian National Opera in Cluj, Iași National Opera, Hungarian National Choir, Szeged Symphony Orchestra, State Philharmonic of Oradea, Satu Mare Philharmonic, and the Csíki Chamber Orchestra.

Currently, he is a soloist at the Hungarian Opera of Cluj and a regular guest artist at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest.
